A pair of full-length portraits of William Fielding and his wife, Susan Villiers. He is depicted wearing an ornate red jacket with gold embroidery and tan boots holding a staff. She is wearing a beautiful red gown with a white silk bodice and decadent gold embroidery standing before an open window. William Fielding (circa 1582-1643) was a highly regarded political figure who held positions at court under James I and Charles I. He was created baron and viscount Fielding in 1620 and Earl of Denbigh on September 14, 1622. Susan Villiers, daughter of Sir George Villiers, and brother to the royal favorite George Villiers, 1st Duke of Buckingham. The couple facilitated the introduction of Balthazar Gerbier to Charles I, who he would eventually serve as his art advisor. (Total: 2 Items)

The Flemish painter Justus Sustermans served as court painter to the Medici Grand Dukes in Florence beginning in 1621 and worked for them for nearly the rest of his career. He was responsible for producing the most complete visual record of the likenesses of the later members Medici family including: Grand Duke Ferdinand II de' Medici and his wife Vittoria della Rovere; Grand Duke Cosimo III de' Medici; Grand Duchess Maria Magdalena of Austria; Leopoldo di Cosimo II de' Medici; Giancarlo de' Medici; and Claudia de' Medici. He also painted a distinguished portrait of Galileo (Uffizi). His reputation as a skilled portraitist in the Baroque tradition won him commissions at many other European and Italian courts including Vienna, Parma, Piacenza, Milan, Mantua, Ferrara, and Rome. Many examples of his work are preserved in the collections of the Uffizi Gallery and Pitti Palace, Florence.
