The 50 cent obverse distinguishes this variety from the other, equally rare Lorena Furnace pieces. This piece is also exceptionally clean, with mellow golden-chestnut luster and satiny fields with subtle overtones. No overt spots distract, though a few appear beneath a loupe. Only 2-4 examples are believed known, per Bowers.

This Select Uncirculated piece displays brass-gold surfaces save for a swath of reddish color that stretches diagonally across the middle of each side. (1861-65) Trowbridge's Watch, Fuld-790A-2a, MS64 Red and Brown NGC.
Sheboygan, WI. Trowbridge was the only merchant token issuer in Sheboygan, Wisconsin during the Civil war. Two varieties are known, one with an Indian cent-inspired Liberty head, the other with a pocket watch motif. The present piece is of the latter variety. Burgundy-brown and copper-red hues adorn each side, complementing the sharp strike and lack of surface imperfections.

Issued by J.M. Longwell/Sutler/119/U.S.C.I. (Colored Infantry) and good for 25 cents in goods only. Listed as R.9 in David E. Schenkman's reference catalog, in Curto as 184. While all Sutler tokens are scarce in relation to other Civil War issues, those issued dealing with Colored units of the Union Army are even scarcer. This is a pleasant white metal token with a steel-gray appearance.
