1853 $2 1/2 MS64 NGC.

Not Sold
1907 $2 1/2 MS66 PCGS.

Auction 263
| Lot: 8877 | Jun 2, 2001
Sold For:
$805.00
1842-O $2 1/2 --Cleaned--ANACS. AU Details, Net AU 50.
A scarce issue and much more challenging than the mintage of 19,800 piece would indicate. In Akers' tome on this series, done more than twenty years ago, he rated this difficult O-mint as having the ninth lowest average grade in the series. When found in high grade, the '42-O is almost invariably poorly defined in the centers, but the only softness seen on this piece is on the eagle's left (facing) leg, almost a diagnostic of quarter eagles from this era. The surfaces are bright from hairlining, but the only mark worthy of mention is a shallow vertical scratch from star 13 upward into the field.
