Popular Comics #52 (Dell, 1940) CGC NM 9.4 Cream to off-white pages.
This issue is billed by Overstreet as having a "robot cover." While the menaces here may be more man than machine, our eyes are drawn to the colors of the fiery action around them, which have withstood the passing of time without losing their brilliance.
Popular
though these comics may have been, that doesn't make them easy to find in top grades today; NM is the highest grade that CGC has assigned for #52 to date, with only the revered Mile High copy equaling this one. Overstreet 2005 NM- 9.2 value = $375. CGC census 4/05: 2 in 9.4, none higher.

Here is the first issue of one of the longest-running comic series' of all time, with Donald Duck newspaper strip reprints by Al Taliaferro, and Gottfredson's Mickey Mouse beginning in this issue. Featuring two of Walt Disney's most beloved comic characters, this copy is missing a small chunk from the bottom right corner of the cover, but has a solid spine, clean, colorful covers, and great paper quality. A respectable copy of an important key issue. Overstreet 2003 VG 4.0 value = $3,050.

Super Comics #22 Mile High pedigree (Dell, 1940) CGC NM 9.4 Off-white to white pages.
The striking, beautiful cover is in great part owing to the fabulous Mile High pedigree, but the stylish, distinctive cover art is owing to Ken Ernst, better known as the co-creator of the long-running strip, "Mary Worth." Dick Tracy, Smilin' Jack, Terry and the Pirates, and Magic Morro are just a few of the features in this collection of popular strips of the day. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $340.

"Super" isn't just the title, it perfectly describes the extraordinary condition of this Mile High book. The distinctive, realistic style of Ken Ernst spotlights Magic Morro on the cover. This is probably the finest copy in existence of a book that just doesn't turn up in any form of high-grade, much less Near Mint Plus. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $340.

This Ken Ernst cover hasn't been seen in such superlative condition since the comic book from 1940 was on the newsstand, unless you happen to be the proud owner of this exquisite Mile High copy. After Ernst did a few Magic Morro covers and a few western covers, he would concentrate on the soap opera strip, "Mary Worth," for the next four decades. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $340.

Man! We're wearing out our "N" and "M" keys with these Mile High beauties on the title. An Ellery Queen action cover seduces us inside for a plethora of features, including the Owl, Red Ryder, and Don Winslow, but it's so hard to break our staring at the covers. Even the Red Ryder carbine ad on the back makes our mouth water, even knowing we'd just shoot our eye out. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $575.

Walt Disney's Comics and Stories #1 (Dell, 1940) CGC VF+ 8.5 Off-white pages.
A truly beautiful copy of this landmark issue, this is by far the best unrestored copy graded by CGC thus far. With interior art by Al Taliaferro and Floyd Gottfredson on Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse respectively, this hard-to-find issue tops many collectors wish lists. This copy also happens to be the very first comic book ever graded and encapsulated by CGC! A great opportunity for any Disney-phile. Overstreet 2002 VF 8.0 value = $9,880.

Red Ryder is one of the top names in Westerns, and is highly collected. Here is a solid copy, with an accumulation of small defects. Overstreet 2002 GD 2.0 value = $275; FN 6.0 value = $825.
