Rocky Marciano Training Gloves (Joe Louis Fight)
In 1951 Rocky Marciano was one of the leading contenders for a title shot when his manager Al Weill arranged for him to meet Joe Louis. Weill figured that if Marciano could beat Louis the victory would propel him to the top of the contender list. Rocky didn't want the fight. He had tremendous respect for Louis and knew that the former champion's skills had diminished. He knew Louis had been a great champion and didn't want his career ending with a knockout. Nevertheless, the fight took place on October 26th, 1951. Joe Louis was ring wise and gave Marciano a good fight until Rocky's sledgehammer blows caught up to him in the 8th round. The fight ended with Joe Louis being knocked through the ropes, thus ending his illustrious career. Marciano's career was now on the fast track that would bring him a shot at the title the following year. Offered here is a pair of G & S oversized training gloves which came from the collection of amateur fighter Lou Orlando. Mr. Orlando collected gloves of his favorite fighters and Rocky Marciano was his favorite. Mr. Orlando labeled the gloves in white paint on the backhand, "Rocky Marciano Training Gloves Given To Me At Stillmans Gym Training For His Fight With Joe Louis Rocky K.O. Joe Louis 8th Rd. Oct. 26, 1951." These 16 ounce gloves are in good shape showing the normal wear from use in the gym. A wonderful opportunity to own a pair of gloves worn by The Rock in preparation for one of his most famous fights. LOA from Craig Hamilton/ JO Sports, Inc.

The year 1956 saw Canada hosting it's first heavyweight championship bout. Pitting Champion Archie Moore against the contender James Parker. The July night in 1956 found the combatants in Maple Leaf Stadium staring from opposing corners. The night saw Moore prevail with a TKO. We offer an official program from that historic night. 1902 Opening of Palace of the Fans Cincinnati Silver Season Pass.
A clear contender for the title of "Best in Class" in the category of silver season passes is this simply remarkable artifact from the collection of Gus Axelson, a prominent sportwriter from the Chicago Herald and author of the 1919 Charles Comiskey biography U Commie. /U Though this gorgeous example of Victorian era craftsmanship afforded Axelson free entry to a season's worth of Reds home games, the more specific purpose of this scarce keepsake was as an invitation to the May 16th dedication of the brand new Palace of the Fans, which served as the club's home field between 1902 and 1912 when Crosley Field was christened on the same ground. One can't help but be stunned by the outrageous detail of the park's ornate grandstand that is faithfully reproduced here in silver, complete with waving flags and miniature ballplayers scattered before a teaming crowd of spectators. Axelson's name is likewise rendered with the matchless artistry, and an engraved serial number of "85" appears at upper right. The gorgeously struck sterling silver keepsake measures 2.5x3.75" and remains in fine, undamaged condition. Included in the lot are six card stock season passes issued to Axelson, as follows: 1919 Cubs, 1922 White Sox, 1923 Cubs, 1924 BBWAA, 1925 BBWAA, 1927 Cubs. Finally, we have Axelson's Chicago Herald business card. All are in VG-EX condition or better.

1886 Kilrain vs. Clow Full Ticket.
On December 22, 1886 in Baltimore, Maryland Heavyweight contender Jake Kilrain fought John Clow. Kilrain continued his pursuit of the Heavyweight title held by John L. Sullivan by pounding out a four round decision over Clow. Offered here is a full, unused ticket to this event. The ticket has a small crease in the lower left corner and some minor soiling on the front. There is some rounding of the corners and some minor edge wear. There is a small stain on the reverse. This is an extremely important and rare ticket from the late nineteenth century featuring a fighter Richard K. Fox of the Police Gazette would proclaim as Heavyweight Champion. The ticket is possibly unique.
LOA from Craig Hamilton / JO Sports.

Early 1910's Tris Speaker Decal Bat.
The young Boston Red Sox star was considered a contender for Cobb's throne at the time his image appeared on the barrel of this Hillerich & Bradsby 40 T.S. bat. Of course we don't need to explain how the vast majority of decal bats were essentially destroyed by use in sandlots, wearing away the elegantly rendered artwork of the decals until nothing remained. Here we find a happy exception to that rule, as the decal remains 85% intact, with most of the wear outside the vignette that holds Speaker's portrait. The lumber of the wood shows some wear as well, but overall the bat presents beautifully, far better than all but a tiny handful of competitors. Length is thirty-four inches, but the appeal is immeasurable.

1996 Mike Tyson Training Worn Gloves.
Acquired directly from heavyweight contender Jose Ribalta, who took on the frightening role of Iron Mike's sparring partner as the Champ trained for his bout with Frank Bruno on March 16, 1996. Ribalta's handwritten letter of provenance explains that he was given this well worn pair of "Ringside" gloves in the days preceding the bout, at which time Tyson signed each in perfect black marker. The gloves show excellent wear, and surely show the signs of the power that retired Bruno in the third round to give Mike the W.B.C. title.
