A. Lange & Söhne Platinum Tourbillon Wristwatch Brings $245,000

Nov. 20 Watches & Fine Timepieces Auction realizes $1.6+ million in New York

A. Lange & Söhne Platinum Tourbillon Wristwatch
NEW YORK – A rare A. Lange & Söhne Glashütte Ref. 701.005 Platinum Tourbillon "Pour le Mérite" wristwatch sold for $245,000 in Heritage Auctions' Nov. 20 Watches & Fine Timepieces Signature® Auction at the Waldorf Astoria in New York. The $1.6 million auction marked the first time the extremely fine wristwatch, No. 42 of a limited edition of 50 examples, was offered at auction by its original owner.

"The market for fine and rare timepieces is always eager to see rare and extraordinary pieces like this Tourbillon," said Jim Wolf, Director of Watches & Fine Timepieces at Heritage. "I was extremely pleased to see the high sell-through rate, particularly among Rolexes and other fine chronographs."

A Rolex Extremely Rare Ref. 6062 Gold "Star" Dial Automatic Triple Calendar Wristwatch sold for $93,750 to a collector in Belgium. A Patek Philippe Ref. 5140G-001 Very Fine Single Sealed White Gold Perpetual Calendar With Moon Phases Wristwatch closed at $59,375 and a standout Franck Muller Very Rare & Superlative Prototype Gold Minute Repeating Wristwatch With Perpetual Calendar & Moon Phases, circa 1986, sold for $50,000 to a collector in Dubai.

A Patek Philippe Ref. 5135J Yellow Gold Gondolo Calendario Wristwatch in as new condition saw interest from five bidders, who pushed the hammer price to $43,750. A Jaeger LeCoultre Ref. 146.2.34.S Very Fine & Rare Rose Gold One Minute Tourbillon Regulator Wristwatch, featuring 18 karat rose gold also closed at $43,750, and an Extremely Fine & Rare "Tradition" Large Rectangular Diamond & Gold Piaget Wristwatch, circa 1972, accented by four pairs of sapphire markers, sold for $37,500.

Among contemporary designer pieces, a Patek Philippe Ref. 5090J "Sculpture" 18 karat Gold Automatic, crafted for the Russian market circa 2000, saw interest from seven bidders who quickly surpassed its $10,000 estimate to a $27,500 hammer price. A striking Roger Dubuis Very Fine Rose Gold Sympathie Bi-Retrograde Perpetual Calendar Wristwatch closed at $23,750.

A. Lange & Söhne Ref. 206.025 Very Fine Platinum "1815" Gent's Wristwatch: Realized: $15,000.
