Dr. Gary Lattimer's Flying Eagle & Indian Cents Sparkle in Heritage's June 2002 Long Beach Auction

Dallas, TX -- Superb Cent condition-rarities from the Collection of Dr. Gary Lattimer will be anchoring Heritage's June 2002 Long Beach Signature Sale.

Noted Bob Korver, Heritage's Auction Director: "The uniform quality of Dr. Lattimer's Flying Eagle and Indian Cents, both Mint State and Proof examples, must be seen to be truly appreciated. As soon as we posted images of highlights from Dr. Lattimer's Collection on our website - -- we began to receive telephone calls from our clients specializing in these popular series. With the current demand for coins that will improve Registry sets, quality coins like these enjoy serious demand."

Dr. Lattimer comes from a long line of collectors, sharing many varied interests. He became interested in coins through his studies of America's Revolutionary period. His collection of Ben Franklin material led him to his first coin acquisition: a Fugio Cent, then to a strong interest in Early Coppers, and subsequently into a substantial collection of Continental and other Silver Dollars. His focus on the Flying Eagle and Indian Cents being sold in the June Long Beach auction was motivated by his discovery of their true rarity in high grade.

Dr. Lattimer's family enjoys the world's largest collection of silver-hilted swords. His personal favorite treasure is George Washington's sword, which is regularly on display at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery. His swords can also be seen on loan to a permanent exhibit at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art. Dr. Lattimer also collects hand-written letters of the Presidents, and his collection of Abraham Lincoln memorabilia and related items is arguably the world's largest -- including the knife used to stab Secretary of State Seward, and Lincoln's blood-stained collar!
