Estate of Colletta Ray McMillian, Holiday Gift, Holiday Table Lead Heritage Auctions’ Fine & Decorative Arts Including Estates Auction

Superb collection of works by Gustavo Montoya, including double-portrait Dos Ninos Mexicanos, headlines sale's Fine Art session

The Holiday Table
DALLAS, Texas (November 29, 2018) — Selections from the Holiday Table, the Holiday Gift and the Estate of Colletta Ray McMillian are among the lots expected to generate the highest demand in Heritage Auctions' Fine & Decorative Arts Including Estates Auction Dec. 7-9 in Dallas, Texas.

The Estate of Colletta Ray McMillian
A native of Houston, Texas, Colletta Ray McMillian was known for her devotion to assorted charities, working on numerous boards, including the Baylor College of Medicine. Her lavish but conservative homes, created together with decorators Michael Baker and Herbert Wells, served as the centerpiece for her entertaining.

Among the exquisite lots from her collection is a Six-Piece Reed & Barton Francis I Pattern Silver Tea & Coffee Service, Taunton, Massachusetts, designed 1907, manufactured 1951 (estimate: $8,000-12,000). Designed over a century ago and manufactured in 1951, the set includes a teapot, coffee pot, covered sugar server, a creamer with gilt washed interior, a waste bowl, tray and ladle – all in silver.

Also from the collection is a Large French Thirteen-Panel Chinoiserie Grisaille Wallpaper Room Screen, 19th century (estimate: $5,000-7,000) mounted later to canvas. The panels stand 95-1/2 inches high and measure 243 inches wide.

Holiday gift
A Tiffany & Co. 14K Gold Cigarette Case, New York, 20th century (estimate: $5,000-7,000) measures 3-7/8 by 3-1/4 by 3/8 inches and weighs 4.92 troy ounces. The case, which is marked "TIFFANY & CO, 14K," once belonged to iconic photographer Robert Mapplethorpe.

A Spinach Jade, 14K Vari-Color Gold, Diamond, Guilloché Enamel, and Cabochon-Mounted Egg on Stand with Bouquet Surprise in the Manner of Fabergé, late 20th century (estimate: $5,000-7,000) stands 9-1/8 inches high and weighs 30.4 ounces. The egg on the stand hinges open to an integral bouquet surprise, and is housed in a fitted box.

A 1981 Salvador Dalí Peace Menorah (Silver) is a silvered bronze (estimate: $3,000-5,000) from an edition of 250 that stands 20 inches high. It is inscribed to the reverse "Salvador Dali, H.C." and is incised to the base "JERUSALEM STONE."

The Holiday Table
Fourteen Royal Copenhagen Flora Danica Pattern Porcelain Table Articles, Copenhagen, Denmark, 20th century (estimate: $8,000-12,000) features the following marks: ROYAL (crown) and COPENHAGEN DENMARK. The set includes a dinner plate, two dinner plates with pierced rims, two luncheon plates, a salad plate, two flat demitasse cups with saucers, two oval-handled pickle dishes, a triangular cake plate, a square salad serving dish, a small round wine cooler/cache pot and one large sugar bowl with a lid.

A Forty-Two-Piece Saint Louis Thistle Pattern Partial Gilt Glass Stemware Service for Eight, Saint-Louis-lès-Bitche, France, designed 1913 (estimate: $7,000-9,000) features the following marks: CRYSTAL, ST LOUIS, FRANCE. A decanter is the tallest item in the set, standing 15-1/4 inches high. The set also includes a pitcher, eight water goblets, eight continental goblets, eight burgundy wine glasses, eight hock wine glasses and eight champagne coupes.

Fine & Decorative Art
Gustavo Montoya Nina Caxaquena, 1967 (estimate: $6,000-8,000) measures 24 by 18 inches and is signed, dated, titled and inscribed on the reverse: "Nina Caxaquena" / Gustavo Montoya / Mexico Jueni 967. Carrying the same pre-auction estimate is another work by Montoya, Dos Ninos Mexicanos, 1967. A 24-by-20-inch oil on canvas, it is signed lower right by the artist and signed, dated, titled and inscribed on the reverse: "Dos Ninos Mexicanos / Mexico D.F. Mayo 2/67 / Gustavo Montoya."

A Portuguese Baroque-Style Carved Walnut Cabinet on Stand, 19th century (estimate: $4,000-6,000) features 12 drawers. The turned legs, pierced apron, and gadrooned detailing to the drawers and molding work in concert to convey a commanding and striking presence.

Oleg Stavrowsky's Late Winter (estimate $2,000-3,000) is a 28-by-30-inch oil-on-canvas signed in the lower left by the artist. Born to Russian parents and raised in Harlem, New York, Stavrowsky's interest in Western art started during World War II; he now lives in Texas.
