Heritage Auctions Appoints Michael Plummer as Chief Marketing Officer
Veteran art market strategist and entrepreneur will split time between New York and Dallas
As CMO, Plummer will lead Heritage’s marketing strategy across all categories, spearheading initiatives to grow the company’s global reach, expand its client base and elevate its brand across platforms. He will oversee marketing operations, data analytics, client engagement strategies and campaign innovation in support of Heritage’s continued trajectory as the world’s largest auction house founded in the United States. “Michael is a true innovator with an exceptional ability to anticipate market trends and respond with bold, strategic vision,” says Steve Ivy, Heritage’s CEO and Co-Chairman. “His track record in art finance, branding and business development — combined with his leadership at some of the most prestigious names in our industry — will be transformative as we deepen our relationships with collectors and institutions worldwide.” Plummer is best known as the co-founder of Artvest, an art and finance advisory that has counseled Fortune 500 companies, museums and ultra-high-net-worth collectors on strategy, acquisition, lending and investment. At Artvest, he was instrumental in orchestrating the financial and brand partnership that created TEFAF New York, successfully expanding the legendary Dutch fair into the U.S. market. As co-managing director of TEFAF New York, he launched the enterprise with profitability within its first year, secured major sponsorships and delivered a visionary cultural program at the Park Avenue Armory. Earlier in his career, Plummer held executive roles at Christie’s, where he served as Senior Vice President and COO of Christie’s Financial Services, and at Sotheby’s, where he led marketing for the Americas and Asia. His tenure at Sotheby’s included responsibility for global branding, digital innovation and educational initiatives. As acting COO of Sotheby’s International Realty, he helped guide the company's strategic shift toward owned brokerages. “Heritage is one of the most exciting stories in the auction world today — innovative, fast-moving and deeply committed to serving collectors at every level,” Plummer says. “I’m honored to join this remarkable team and help build on its momentum through fresh strategies and meaningful storytelling.” In addition to his corporate achievements, Plummer is a longtime educator and community leader. He lectured on art finance at Christie’s Education and hosted the podcast Jetstreams. He was Chairman of LAMDA in America, where he led the creation of a fully endowed Fulbright award, and worked with the Posse Foundation to expand educational access for inner-city students. A graduate of The Wharton School, Plummer holds a degree in finance and has completed a certificate course in Artificial Intelligence. He lives in New York City and will maintain offices in both Heritage’s Manhattan and Dallas locations.
