Heritage Central States Auctions Exceed $16 Million

Dallas, Texas: Heritage Numismatic Auctions presented more than 6,500 lots in its May 5 through 8 Signature Auction; the 12^th major auction Heritage has held as official auctioneer of the Central States Numismatic Society. Prices realized exceed $12.3 million, which does not include the $3.4 million generated in the Heritage-CAA Central States Currency Auction. Total sales will climb well past $16 million as bidders compete for Post-Auction Bargains and in Heritage's Central States Bullet Auction. Over 6,000 bidders have competed, most of them online, and more than 1,600 bidders have won lots thus far. The Bullet auction will close Monday evening at 10pm CT, May 10 at Heritage's award-winning website, www.HeritageCoin.com.

Two 1794 Dollars were stars of the show, and garnered a total of more than $200,000. Like many survivors of the first year mintage of 1,758 pieces, the two pieces were not problem-free. However, sharp examples such as these are coveted by collectors for their rarity and historical importance.

Many lots sold for multiples of their Coin Dealer Newsletter^TM bids. Among the most spectacular prices realized were for two MS65 Red PCGS Lincoln Cents, a 1925-S and a 1927-S. The former sold for $37,950 while the latter hammered down for $14,950, CDN prices are $4,900 and $2,900, respectively.

Another extremely strong price was for a 1920-D Walking Liberty Half, MS65 PCGS, which sold for $24,150, a substantial increment above the CDN value of $8,300. This lot was part of the formidable Nicholas Collection, which offered dozens of high grade key date Walkers in earlier generation PCGS holders.

Featured consignments for the Central States Signature Auction included The Robert Bowling Collection, The Virgil Farstad Collection, The Fox Valley Coin Commemoratives, The Frank O. Fredericks Collection, Part Four, The Eric Kreuter Collection, The Nicholas Collection, The Pleasant Valley Collection, and the Keith Ramsey Collection.
