Heritage Comics Staff Expansion Continues!
Ben Samuels joins HCA team.
DALLAS, TEXAS: Heritage Comics Auctions (HCA) is pleased to announce that Ben Samuels has joined their staff as a Cataloger.
"As we expand our schedule of offerings," said Jim Steele, HCA's Chief Cataloger, "it's very important that we also expand our staff with knowledgeable writers who bring to the table expertise over a broad area of collectibles. Ben fits that criteria perfectly."
Ben Samuels was introduced to comics when he unearthed a big stack of the four-color treasures in his Grandfather's basement. He quickly discovered that he loved the stories and art, and a lifelong passion was born.
That passion was fueled in middle school, when Ben found that his art teacher was not only a comic's enthusiast, but also a boyhood friend of Roy Thomas, the first editor to follow Stan Lee at Marvel Comics. Ben was constantly inspired by boyhood tales of Thomas, and resolved to follow in his footsteps.
After two years at the Kansas Art Institute, Ben transferred to the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he earned a BA in English with an emphasis on creative writing. Armed with both art and writing skills, Ben self-published his own black-and-white comic during the 1980's, but soon discovered that he was too slow to be a professional.
Moving away from comics briefly, Ben taught English in Japan for a year before moving to Thailand to write for the financial newspaper, Asia Times.
After returning to America, Ben developed a website (which he still maintains), the Golden Age Comic Cover Gallery, located at www.samuelsdesign.com/comics. He has contributed to the Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #32 and #33, and currently collects Golden Age romance, horror, and war comics, original art, and pulp magazines.
