Heritage is Gone With the Wind!
Dallas, Texas: Published in 1936, Margaret Mitchell's Gone With the Wind was the result of more than ten years secretive writing by the first-time author. Largely written for her own amusement, the book was a massive success upon publication, winning a Pulitzer Prize in 1937. The movie rights were sold to David O. Selznik for $50,000, an unheard of amount at the time, and the immortal film premiered on December 15, 1939. Its estimated production budget of $3.9 million made it the most expensive movie ever produced up to that time. By almost any standard, it is considered by many to be the most popular film ever made.
"This movie boasts a fine array of promotional material produced for it," said Grey Smith, Director of Vintage Movie Poster Auctions for Dallas-based Heritage Auction Galleries, "with some of the most beautiful being those pieces designed by artist Armando Seguso. The Style CP one sheet we're offering in our July auction is one of Seguso's designs, and it was released for the opening or premiere engagements of the film in selected theaters around the country in 1939."
"Another copy of this exquisite poster sold in our Summer 2002 auction for $18,400," said Smith, "and I expect this lively copy to perform at least as well. This beautiful poster has had almost no restoration other than being laid on linen and some slight fold separation addressed. Frankly, my dear, you will give a damn!"
The Gone With the Wind Style CP one sheet will be offered in Heritage Auction Galleries' upcoming Vintage Movie Poster Signature Auction, to be held July 14, 2006 in Dallas, Texas. For more information, or to bid online, please visit www.HeritageAuctions.com/MoviePosters.
