Heritage Numismatic Auctions’ Santa Clara Sales Top $4.5 Million Mark
Dallas, Texas: Heritage’s official auctions held at the November 2002 Santa Clara Coin Expo, realized more than $4.5 million. The Signature Sale realized $3,889,230, with high prices buoyed by more than 1600 Internet bidders who won more than 50% of all lots sold. An astonishing 77% of all successful bidders participated in the auction through the Web. Heritage’s Internet Bullet auction, with viewing at Santa Clara, realized at least an additional $612,288, so far. "Total prices realized for Santa Clara," added HNAI Director Bob Korver, "will also include more post-auction sales that have yet to be input into our system. The determined floor bidders in Santa Clara quite often had to concede to the strength of the Internet and telephone bidders on some very important coins.""There are three trends that we see developing in every auction. 1) Internet demand grows larger - and higher - as evidenced by the majority of lots regularly selling to our exclusive Interactive Internet™ bidders. 2) Record prices are being paid for twentieth century coins as the demand for Registry-level coins continues. 3) Exceptional eye-appealing coins are truly in demand, such as an 1888 Liberty Nickel graded MS66 by PCGS (Santa Clara lot 5795) that realized $21,850."
"Prices paid for registry-level Lincoln Cents were truly amazing," noted Heritage Executive VP Greg Rohan. "A 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent graded MS65 Red PCGS realized $3,910; a 1910-S graded MS67 Red ICG realized $2,990; a 1912 graded MS66 Red PCGS realized $2,530; a 1915-S graded MS65 RED PCGS realized $10,925; a 1924-D graded MS65 Red PCGS realized $7,590; and a 1930-D graded MS66 Red PCGS realized $6,038."
