Heritage Welcomes Rebecca Lax to Its Prints & Multiples Department in New York
Lax brings more than three decades of art-world experience to a popular and growing category at the auction house
From her longtime base in New York, Lax brings more than three decades of experience in the contemporary art and print worlds. After getting her career start at the storied Leo Castelli Gallery, she has held significant sales and administrative roles at notable New York galleries, including as Assistant Director at Galerie Lelong & Co. and Sales at Jim Kempner Fine Art. Her expertise in the print market encompasses her history in Sales and as Print Curator at Solo Press, as Registrar at Pace Prints, and as Director of Finance at the LeRoy Neiman Center for Print Studies, Columbia University. More recently, Lax has served as a Senior Print Specialist at artnet auctions, Auctionata/Paddle8 and Bonhams. In 2014, Lax established her own consultancy business, Lax & Associates LLC, in Brooklyn. “Rebecca’s knowledge and experience places her at the top of her field,” says Ed Beardsley, Heritage’s Vice President & Managing Director of Fine & Decorative Arts. “As we continue to grow our monthly online and seasonal live auctions, we are delighted to add her to the team.” Lax is a graduate in painting and printmaking from Bennington College, Vermont. During a brief step away from the commercial art scene, she ventured into scenic painting for the Public Theater, honing her skills under the tutelage of Lester Polakov at his famed scenic studio. In her role at Heritage, Lax will source Prints, Multiples and Modern and Contemporary art for the auction house’s Fine Arts categories. “I am honored to join the Heritage Fine Art Department and bring my prints acumen to the team,” says Lax. “After visiting Heritage’s New York office and auction headquarters in Dallas, I was so impressed by the people, all outstanding professionals in their fields and working toward the same goal of finding incredible works to bring to auction. I look forward to working with all clients.” Lax can be reached at 212-486-3736 or via e-mail at beckyl@HA.com, and is seeking consignments for Heritage’s upcoming Prints & Multiples and Modern & Contemporary Art auctions, including its October 22 Prints & Multiples Signature® Auction and its November 7 Modern & Contemporary Art Signature® Auction.
