Inaugural Platinum Night Auction to be held by Heritage at FUN, January 7, 2004Dallas, Texas: Heritage is holding its inaugural Platinum Night auction on January 7th, as part of their official auctions being held at the 2004 annual convention of the Florida United Numismatists in Orlando. The special Platinum Night catalogs feature some of the very finest coins that Heritage is auctioning at FUN, offered together in one sizzling session of the rarest of the rare. Platinum Night in anchored by the magnificent Green Pond and North Shore Collections.
The Green Pond Collection of Dahlonega Gold is one of the finest complete collections of these rarities ever assembled, holding dual PCGS Registry leadership as the #1 Current and #1 All-Time Finest Dahlonega Collection. The overall quality of every coin is simply incredible, with many “finest known” and “Condition Census” survivors. Nearly every Green Pond rarity is a plate coin in the second edition of Doug Winter's Gold Coins of the Dahlonega Mint, 1838-1861. The Green Pond Collection contains rarities with pedigrees from many of the most important collections of the last century.
The North Shore Collection was assembled by the Chairman of a large, well-established New York manufacturing company, who resides on the North Shore of Long Island known as the “Gold Coast.” His passions are his family, philanthropy, and his world-class numismatic collection - one of the most important consignments in Heritage’s history. Among its hundreds of pieces can be found many rarities of significant appeal: 1796 No Stars Quarter Eagle, MS62 NGC; 1848 "CAL" $2.50 MS67; 1863 $2.50 Deep Cameo PR64, ex: Bass; 1875 $3 PR65 Cameo, NGC; 1879 $4 PR63 Cameo; 1834 $5 PR63 Cameo; 1875 $10 PR64* Cameo, NGC; 1854-O $20 AU58, NGC; 1861-S $20 Paquet Reverse AU58 NGC; 1870-CC $20 AU53, PCGS; 1883 $20 PR65 Deep Cameo PCGS; 1884 $20 PR66 Cameo; 1887 $20 PR64 Cameo NGC; 1907-D $20 PR62, ex: Farouk; and a 1907 High Relief $20 PR67, NGC. His complete set of Charlotte Mint Half Eagles includes many “finest known,” and rarities such as the 1840-C (MS60 NGC), 1842-C Small Date (MS61 NGC), 1844-C (MS62 NGC), and 1846-C (MS62 PCGS). The North Shore early Eagles, fourteen Uncirculated pieces from 1795-1804, are complete by Guide Book variety, including the very rare 1795 9 Leaves in MS60 PCGS, and the 1798/7 7x6 Stars variety in MS62 PCGS. The Double Eagles in the North Shore Collection are nearly complete by date and mintmark (lacking only the 1856-O, the 1927-D, and the 1933) and including the three proof-only $20 dates.
“In addition to the complete Green Pond Collection and North Shore Collection,” noted Heritage President Greg Rohan, “more than seventy of our hundreds of FUN consignors are participating in this first Platinum Night. Several of our FUN anchors have split their consignments, so we welcome you to read more about their collections in the main FUN catalog. Herein you will find selections from Part 2 of the Palm Beach Collection, Part 3 of the Frank O. Fredericks Collection, the Patrick Mullen Collection, and several others.
Platinum Night contains many of the most wonderful rarities among the 20,000+ lots that Heritage will auction during January.”

The auctioneer did a superb job of helping us obtain the best possible prices for our treasures. By my study, nine of our 74 different coins in the sale set new highest prices. That shows real results.View More Testimonials
