Robert Crumb - Original Art "Note" 11/24/60
One of a series of handwritten/illustrated letters Crumb wrote in his youth to his friend Marty Pahls, this is a superb example of Crumb's formative years. The text of the letter is mainly to do with record albums, which both Crumb and Pahls collected. Contains 8 pages altogether, though three of these are blank; besides the cover, there is one large illustration on the last page, and a very small cartoon on another text page. Back cover has some light staining, but overall this is in superb condition. 5.5" x 8.5". Realized $1,380.00
Robert Crumb - Original Cover Art for Arcade #18 (No Publisher, 1962).
"Arcade" was a series of sketchbooks Crumb did as a young man, usually in composition books, and he would often do a full-color cover and glue it to the cover of the composition book. This is a rather playful cover (even for Crumb's early years) of happy young lad scampering through a winter-time scene. Rendered in ink and crayon, and measuring 7.75" x 8.5", this is an excellent (and affordable) Crumb piece for your collection. Several small tears at the top and left edges, and a significant crease app. 2" from the right edge; the back side has significant glue staining, but this does not bleed to the front view. Realized $1,150.00
Walt Disney's Uncle Scrooge #4 (Dell, 1954) CGC VF/NM 9.0 Off-white pages.
Carl Barks cover and art. Overstreet 2003 VF/NM 9.0 value = $345. From the collection of Bobby Harmon. Realized $1,150.00
The Incredible Hulk #4 (Marvel, 1962) CGC VF+ 8.5 Off-white pages.
Brief origin retold; Jack Kirby cover and art. Overstreet 2003 VF 8.0 value = $979; VF/NM 9.0 value = $1440. Realized $1,121.25
Panic #1 Gaines File pedigree 11/12 (EC, 1954) CGC VF/NM 9.0 White pages.
Used in Senate investigation hearings; Elder draws entire E.C. staff; Santa Claus and Mickey Spillane parody; Davis, Elder and Kamen art. Overstreet 2003 VF/NM 9.0 value = $282; NM 9.4 value = $360. Realized $948.75
