Schulz Original Art Sells for More Than Just Peanuts!
Dallas, Texas: Two original Peanuts Sundays, both by artist/creator Charles Schulz, sold on June 12, 2004, in Heritage Comics Auction's (HCA) latest Signature Sale, held in Dallas, TX.
"Schulz's art has always held a special place in the comic art market," said John Petty, HCA's Director of Auctions. "Peanuts is, without a doubt, one of the most beloved comic strips in American history, and collectors value works by this modern master."
"The two pieces in this sale," continued Petty, "were classic Peanuts. One showed a familiar scene between the love-struck Lucy and the clueless Schroeder, and the other was an early "football gag," in which Lucy offers to hold the football?again, and Charlie Brown attempts to kick it?again, with predictably disastrous results."
"Not surprisingly," Petty said, "the football Sunday was one of the stars of the show, realizing an impressive $41,400 . The Schroeder Sunday performed quite well also, bringing in $12,650 . A daily from 1954, featuring a very young Linus and an early Snoopy, fetched $11,500, a very strong price for a daily ."
