Tiffany Lamps Lead Heritage Auctions’ Tiffany, Lalique & Art Glass Auction Beyond $1.2 Million

Tiffany lamps claim six of top 10 prices realized

Tiffany Studios Peony Lamp 1915
DALLAS, Texas (December 27, 2018) — Leaded glass and bronze Tiffany lamps led the total sales in Heritage Auctions' Tiffany, Lalique & Art Glass including Art Deco & Art Nouveau Auction to $1,295,427 Nov. 15 in Dallas, Texas. The auction featured sell-through rates of 97.01 percent by value and 95.2 percent by lots sold.

Tiffany lamps claimed six of the top 10 spots in the auction.

"This was the next in a series of very strong auctions in this category," Heritage Auctions Vice President of Special Collections Nick Dawes said. "The sell-through rate of over 97 percent underscores the quality of the lots in this sale, and casts a spotlight on the knowledge of the collectors."

Six collectors made bids for a Tiffany Studios Leaded Glass and Bronze Peony Table Lamp until it exceeded pre-auction estimates when it closed at $93,750. The lamp had first appeared on the auction market more than 40 years ago and was discovered in a Pennsylvania estate. Nearly a dozen collectors pursued Tiffany Studios Leaded Glass and Bronze Red Poppy Table Lamp until it finished at $81,250, more than twice the low pre-auction estimate.

The auction featured an impressive selection of pate-de-verre, mostly from the early 20th century, but the top lot was a modern example: Monumental Limited Edition Jean-Philippe Richard for Daum Pate-de-Verre Glass Charlotte Sculpture with Original Box, which sparked a flurry of competitive bids before selling for $47,500, more than tripling its low pre-auction estimate. Heritage has developed a strong market for modern Daum and Lalique limited edition artistic pieces. A record price was set for the classic post-war Lalique Frosted Glass Masque de Femme plaque, which was presented with original metal stand, which more than doubled its low pre-auction estimate when it closed at $11,875.

The market for Rene Lalique proved strong and saw a R. Lalique Frosted Glass Grande Boule Lierre Vase with Green and Sepia Patina take $32,500, more than twice its low pre-auction estimate.

Other top lots included, but were not limited to:

· Tiffany Studios Leaded Glass and Bronze Daffodil Table Lamp: $30,000

· Tiffany Studios Leaded Glass and Bronze Banded Dogwood Table Lamp: $27,500

· Rare R. Lalique Amber Glass Suzanne Statuette on Bronze Peacock Illuminated Base: $25,000

The way you grouped lots, photographed, and presented the material was too notch. I was impressed that you took the time to attribute coins to the Krause reference as their "plate coin" and that many of your descriptions included pertinent facts and infor
